What is Maui Wind Map?

Maui Wind Map displays wind forecasts for Maui island using data from the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. The forecasts are updated daily and show predicted wind conditions for the current day and tomorrow.

Data Sources

Wind Forecast Data

Wind data comes from the PacIOOS ERDDAP server, which hosts the WRF Maui-Oahu dataset (wrf_mo). The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model is a state-of-the-art mesoscale numerical weather prediction system developed by NCAR and partners, used worldwide for atmospheric research and operational forecasting. This 2km resolution implementation is produced by the University of Hawaii's Department of Atmospheric Sciences under Dr. Yi-Leng Chen's research group.

The forecast updates daily around 2:30pm HST.

Coastline Data

The Maui coastline is sourced from the Hawaii Statewide GIS Program and has been smoothed for display clarity.
